Sci Fi Genre

The scifi genre has been around for decades and started amongst the 1900s with the short film Metropolis directed by Fritz Lang. As a genre, the elements usually incorporate hypothetical, science based themes into the plot which address futuristic elements and technologies to explore social, political and philosophical issues.

As a basis of all types of film, the sci fi genre often features the use of practical and visual effects however it could be argued that the genre would take on the most of these types of effects than compared with any other due to the demands of producing moments of pure fiction that involve places undiscovered such as space and a rediscovered timeline amongst history.

The storyline is an integral cog in the film machine and therefore Sci Fi would resemble our own film due to our storyline containing elements of this with the alternating timeline due to the fidget spinner. The plot of our film is a crucial element of representing sci-fi time travel therefore similar films may include ones such as:

Looper (Dir. Rian Johnson, 2012)

This film demonstrates a comparison as it portrays the consequences of time travel which alludes to our film as it ultimately ends conveying the destructive nature of time travel were it to exist and used by an individual. Furthermore, the film conveys a comparison between specific point in time which is similar to how our film will play out.

Harry Potter (Dir. Alfonso Cuaron, 2004)

This film would also be comparable to our plot due to the use of the hourglass as the miscellaneous object/ symbol of tradition.
