Genre Research - Sub Genre Conventions of Our Film

Genre Research - Sub Genre Conventions of Our Film

With the origin of the concept of science fiction films at the start of the 20th century, along came the development of those concepts for over the next 100 years and with those developments came hundreds of sub genres. Sub genres are used to categorize and connect different genres to the main genre of the film, sometimes not being an even split and feeling like many different genres. This can often attract wider audiences and further flesh out the tone and feel of a film. Some examples of this is are sci-fi horror, time travel movies, sci-fi fantasy and alien movies. Due to this development of sub genre, we have inputted both comedy and tragedy elements into our film to branching out to a wider audience and not having to adhere to one strict genre and all of the tropes that come with that.

Many conventions of our films genre can be seen in various aspects of the film. For example the plot, a boy suddenly finding a device that lets him rewind time is a typical time travel movie trope, as is him abusing his new found power for self gain such as in Back To The Future Part II or The Butterfly Effect.

Comedy aspects are also present in our film such as having an unintelligent and dim witted protagonist be unaware of his own lack of intelligence and carelessness like in the Ernest film franchise. This allows our film to be more freeing and fun, not treating everything so seriously because those types of films, especially when created for A level media, are always so mundane and boring whereas we can have fun with this and also hopefully create something goofy and fun.
